Shostakovich was gradually restored to favour, allowed to earn a living, and even honoured, though there was a price: co-operation (at least ostensibly) with the authorities. Shostakovich piano concerto #2 is my favorite piece of music. I used to have a vinal record of Leonard Bernstein playing it which was just awesome. Since, I have had several versions on CD by other pianists that just were not as good.
